We are extremely excited and ready to start our sea turtle nest protection program at the Biological Reserve Cerro Hermoso. We found hatchlings of the endangered leatherback sea turtle right at the front of our Reserve. The leatherback sea turtle grows 7 to 8 feet long, weighing almost a ton. This is the world's largest turtle. The shell is smooth with several lengthwise ridges. Unfortunately, this beauty is highly endangered and constantly threaten by poachers, boats, fishing nets and destruction of coastal areas. *** Estamos muy emocionados y listos para comenzar nuestro programa de protección de nidos de tortugas marinas en la Reserva Biológica Cerro Hermoso. Encontramos crías de la tortuga laúd que está en peligro de extinción justo al frente de nuestra Reserva. La tortuga laúd crece de 7 a 8 pies de largo y pesa casi una tonelada. Esta es la tortuga más grande del mundo. El caparazón es liso con varias crestas longitudinales. Lamentablemente, esta belleza se encuentra en peligro de extinción y constantemente amenazada por cazadores furtivos, barcos, redes de pesca y destrucción de las zonas costeras.
